Promotional pencils come in all shapes, sizes and colours; however, one of the most popular is the mechanical pencil. Used in the building industry. as well as by illustrators, engineers and graphic artists, these pencils are a step above the rest, both in terms of precision and practicality. They are usually made from plastic or metal, and contain an internal mechanism which helps to push the graphite lead down through to the tip, as and when it is needed. Mechanical promotional pencils product consistent, fine lines, which makes them perfectly suited to things like drawing and drafting, where preciseness is essential.
However, one of the main advantages of mechanical pencils over other types of promotional pencils is that they never need to be sharpened, and the tip will never be too thin or too thick. Even with regular use, the graphite will last quite a long time, and once it is finished, all the owner needs to do it refill it. The lack of sharpening also means that the balance of the pencil never changes; with an ordinary wooden pencil, it continues to get shorter each time it is used and then sharpened, which alters the way you hold it, making it more and more uncomfortable to use. The pencil will eventually become too short to hold and will have to be discarded. The fact that mechanical pencils can potentially last for years, if refills are used, also means that they provide your brand with long-term exposure, something which is incredibly valuable and will do wonders for your business.
When it comes to using promotional merchandise, there are very few 'rules'; however it is important to ensure that the items you choose are relevant and useful to your target audience. For instance, if you have customers who work in the building trade, it makes more sense to give them mechanical printed pencils, which they will use on a regular basis, than something like a novelty desktop toy, which will most likely be tossed into a drawer and forgotten about in a day or two. Mechanical printed pencils are also one of the most affordable pieces of promotional merchandise for those in the building trade; whilst branded work-wear, tools and tape measures can be very effective, they tend to be expensive. As such, if you're on a budget, mechanical pencils are the best alternative.
